Cooktown was a delight on many levels, with intriguing history, exotic natural beauty, and lots of sensory input—light, fragrance, heat, color. I already included a book excerpt about Cooktown on March 20, and on May 17, I showed you one of my favorite photos of Cooktown, so you’ve gotten a little taste of the town. Here is another of my favorite photos of this place—local prawn trawlers. As with most of the Queensland coast, seafood is abundant and glorious. This was taken in late afternoon, when the trawlers were coming in or were already in and being prepped for the coming day’s fishing. Aside from being picturesque, the trawlers promised delights for the evening’s meal.
