Playing Harbor

While it is true, as was noted a couple of posts ago, that Sydney Harbour is a working harbor, it is also a playing harbor—and possibly more so, at least as far as the number of people involved. Once the weather gets warm, even on a cloudy day that seems to threaten rain, the harbor is filled with sails. Of course, while Sydney Harbour affords an astonishing setting for pleasure craft, it is by no means the only Australian city so caught up in sailing and boats. The vast majority of Australians live within an hour of an ocean, and large numbers of them are never happier than when “messing about in boats.”
