The rain that had triggered the playing of “Send ‘Er Down, Hughie” did not let up. We watched in astonishment as the Red Center turned into the Red Sea. Fortunately, we made it to a patch of high ground at Marla Bore, a tiny outpost with not much more than a gas station, restaurant, small motel, and equipment for railroad workers. We would get no farther for some time. The photo below was taken on day three of our enforced stay, when the rain began to let up a little.
